Interview Assignment

Interview Assignment

Interviews are a great way of getting to know someone. This interview will allow me to learn about Jully Patel not as a student, but an individual. I believe that a person’s career is led by their feelings and personalities, which is why I will be focused on that area in this interview. Hopefully, her career choice will help me to know her better.

How would you describe yourself as a whole person?

I think I would describe myself as someone who is just trying to live life, and be happy as I’m doing it. I try not to dwell on the negative aspects of my day, so it doesn’t stop me from being the optimistic person I am.

If money was of no problem, you can go wherever, do whatever you want, what would you want to be doing?

Honestly, I would love to travel around the world and experience different cultures and traditions. I would love to meet new people, make new friends, which I don’t really get to because of my daily monotonous lifestyle. I also have a dream of opening up my own art gallery where I would be able to display my paintings and ceramic art pieces. Aside from that I want to get a quiet place surrounded by trees and nature where I can open an art studio.

What plans do you have in the future, after college, or even further beyond?

As of right now, I don’t have any final plans for my future or even after I graduate college, mainly because I want to live in the moment and experience life as it is. I think that the years have been going by so fast for me that I forget to enjoy certain moments with those that I care for. Yet, I have many things I want to do in future that includes, teaching art, maybe becoming a curator at a gallery or museum, and maybe even owning my own studio where I hold private classes, but nothing is certain. So as of right now im just trying to enjoy the college life and get a bachelor’s degree in fine arts.

In what ways does art affect your life?

Art has been a big part of my life since I was a little girl. I remember my Dad used to buy my sketch books and markers so we could draw together, it’s one of the memories I cherish most of my childhood. After my Dad had passed away, art became a way for me to remember him and our moments together. Once I finished my first semester in college, I knew that if I cared too much about what others said and focused too much on what they wanted me to do as a career I would be lying to myself, and since then I knew that art is what made me happy because of my childhood and the meaning it has in my life.

What age or grade of students would you teach art to and why?

I think that if I ever become a teacher I would like to teach either elementary or middle school children. I remember that the reason I am where I am today is because of my middle school art teacher who encouraged and motivated my to continue drawing and painting. I think that kids around that age have so much imagination and potential to learn, which I want to nurture so I can see them grow as artists.

Since you crave to become an artist, you must be very creative and have strong imagination, how would you normally start your paintings, and what purpose do you want to bring or arrive to?

I normally start my paintings with a set idea in my head which is either inspired by something other artist has painted or an original idea which was inspired by my surroundings. As of right now I do more of landscape paintings in which I try to capture a  brief moment of beauty on a canvas.

What do you like to do on your free time?

Aside from watching shows or movies on netflix, I enjoy journaling, writing and I have recently gotten a sewing machine which ive been learning how to use. I also have just gotten interested in embroidery.

After summarizing all Jully Patel’s responses, I see how art shows her personality and goals. It is sad to have a loss in a family member, but is wonderful that painting gets her closer to her father. I can say that she is dedicated and optimistic after hearing her reasons to become an artist.
